Generally, the recommended sand filter pressure is less than 0.45Bar (6.5PSI) when it is running. Backwash and Rinsing.

Cleaning and backwash the filter

Open the cover of the pump and empty the filter basket. Refit the cover. Open the valve to the drain outlet. Turn the lever to BACKWASH.

Another industry standard is to backwash when your filter's pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI (pounds per square inch) over the starting level or “clean” pressure. For example, if your filter is running normally at 15 PSI but increases to 25 PST, you should perform a backwash.

The filter cartridge in the pump may need to be cleaned or replaced. Check the size of the filter cartridge being used and replace with correct size. The size you need should be on the box the pool arrived in. Check the position of the filter cartridge and align if necessary.

The most common reason for low or no flow is that the baskets are full of debris. By checking and emptying both the skimmer basket (by the pool) and the pump basket (inside the pump) will free up the water flow, allowing the system to fully 'prime' and function at full capacity.

Zero pressure means that there's nothing going on inside of your filter, so simply check if the valves leading to your filter are in the correct positions. If everything seems to be running correctly, pump is okay, water flow and everything, then give your pressure gauge a few taps, it could just be stuck.

Seeing as Bestway pools are above ground, it's important that you treat the water properly from the moment you put the pool up. Once the pool is full it's unlikely to have much (if any) chlorine. That's why it's recommended to use a “shock” or starter dose once you have your pool up.

Backwashing and teardown depend on how often you use your swimming pool and just how dirty it actually gets with normal use. DE filters are usually torn down and cleaned at least six times per year. Unless your pool gets really dirty, you should not need to backwash it beyond your scheduled maintenance.

A commonly asked question amongst our customers is, “when should we clean our pool's filter cartridge?” Typically, we recommend that your cartridges inside your filter be cleaned every 3 months for longevity of your cartridges, as well as for better pool filtration and water flow.

If you backwash your pool too much i.e. time duration and/or close frequency then yes you can cause a lot of problems. Some problems that can arise from backwashing your sand pool filter too much are: Loss of water – 500+ litres of water can be lost in each backwashing cycle.

If your pool filter is working properly, the dirt should be sucked into the skimmer basket. You can test this by adding a small amount of dirt to the skimmer basket and seeing if it is sucked in. If it is not, then there may be a problem with your pool filter.
